I started running into several injuries a year ago that prevented me from exercising as intensely as I had been. My inability to do the exercises I wanted left me feeling defeated, depressed and downtroden. Professionals (like my physical therapist, massage therapist and physician) helped me realize I needed to change the way I was moving my body as I got older. One of the things suggested was walking 30 minutes a day. This would train my body to focus on moving correctly while redeveloping the endurance needed for more strenuous exercise. In walking 30 minutes a day, I found 3 things happed: (1) I got to know my surrounding area and neighbors better. It forced me to explore different routes and meet new people, (2) I focused more on my core muscles to move my lower body and (3) I started using more subtle muscles that got overlooked during my more intense workouts.
